Compression wraps are applied to limbs and other body parts to achieve graduated compression. They are used for management of venous hypertension, lymphedema, and venous ulcers to reduce edema and aid return of venous blood to the heart. Products in this category include plain and paste bandages and multilayer bandaging regimens. Physician order should specify level of compression and body parts. Static compression wraps are contraindicated for arterial insufficiency, intermittent claudication, ischemia, uncontrolled congestive heart failure, acute dermatitis, weeping dermatosis, cutaneous sepsis.
