Total contact cast systems are non-removable offloading devices that are constructed of a single-layer cast and outer layer component for extra support. The molded cast is close-fitting and minimally padded, providing increased weight-bearing capacity of the entire plantar area by redistributing pressure front focal pressure points of the foot.
Total contact cast systems feature the following general performance properties and attributes:
• Ensure patient compliance
• Kits include all necessary components for application
Total contact cast systems are indicated for use on diabetic foot conditions, such as non-infected neuropathic ulcers, as well as pre-ulcerative conditions and post-operative wounds.
Total contact casting systems are contraindicated for ulcers with signs of clinical infection, neuropathic foot ulcers with involvement or exposure of deeper structures, and ulcers that are deeper than they are wide. They are not for use on patients with inadequate vascular status, when the foot exceeds the boot size, or on patients who are allergic to the cast’s components.
These offloading devices must be administered by a trained clinician or wound care professional.
