3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film is a liquid intended for use as a film-forming product that upon application to intact or damaged skin forms a long lasting waterproof barrier, which acts as a protective interface between the skin and bodily wastes, fluids, adhesive products, and friction and shear. It is intended as a primary barrier against irritation from body fluids. The product may be used on adults, children, and infants over one month of age.
3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film is NOT to be used as the only covering in situations that require dressing protection from bacterial contamination/penetration, e.g. intravenous therapy catheter sites and full- or partial-thickness wounds or on infected areas of the skin.

3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier contains hexamethyldisiloxane which is considered extremely flammable.
3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier is extremely flammable until it has completely dried on the skin and vapors have dissipated.
ALLOW THE PRODUCT TO DRY FOR A MINIMUM OF 90 SECONDS BEFORE USING ANY DEVICE THAT COULD PROVIDE A SOURCE OF HEAT OR IGNITION. THIS ALLOWS FLUID TO DRY AND VAPORS TO DISSIPATE.
Do not use 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier near fire or flame, heat, sparks and sources of static discharge.
Do not use 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier near ignition sources or heat-producing devices. Use in a well ventilated area.
Foam applicators and wipes are individually packaged for single use only. Reuse could result in increased risk of infection, or inadequate product performance.
Keep out of reach of children.
Should redness or other signs of irritation appear, or if redness or signs of irritation persist, consult a physician.
Avoid contact with the eye.
Use of other barrier products, ointments, creams or lotions may significantly reduce its effectiveness.
For best results, this product should be stored at room temperature. For shelf life, refer to the expiration date on each package.

Directions for Use in a Surgical Setting:

When used in a surgical environment, use of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier should be discussed during the “Fire Risk Assessment” or “time out” period for verification of surgical procedure and site.
1. Skin should be clean and dry prior to application of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier.
2. Using the foam wipe, apply a uniform coating of film over the entire area of concern.
3. If an area is missed, reapply to that area only after the first application of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier has dried.
4. ALLOW THE PRODUCT TO DRY FOR A MINIMUM OF 90 SECONDS BEFORE USING ANY DEVICE THAT COULD PROVIDE A SOURCE OF HEAT OR IGNITION. THIS ALLOWS FLUID TO DRY AND VAPORS TO DISSIPATE.
5. If 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier is applied to an area with skin folds or other skin-to-skin contact, make sure that skin-contact areas are separated to allow the film to thoroughly dry before returning to the normal position.
6. When used to protect skin from adhesive trauma, allow 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier to thoroughly dry before covering with dressings, tapes or other adhesive products.
Directions for Use around Intravenous Therapy Catheter Sites:
1. Prior to application of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier, prepare the site according to facility protocol. Allow all antiseptic preps to dry completely.
2. Use the foam wipe to apply a uniform coating of film to the skin which will be covered by the adhesive dressing and/or device. If using a securement dressing containing Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG), do not apply film to skin that will come in contact with the CHG gel pad.
3. If an area is missed, reapply to that area only after the first application of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier has dried (approximately 30 seconds).
4. Allow 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier to thoroughly dry before covering with an adhesive dressing and/or device.
5. Reapplication of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier is necessary each time the adhesive dressing and/or device is changed; the barrier film is removed by the adhesive.
General Directions for Use
1. Skin should be clean and dry prior to application of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier.
2. Use the foam wipe to apply a uniform coating of film over the entire area of concern.
3. If an area is missed, reapply to that area only after first application of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier has dried (approximately 30 seconds). In situations where exposure to caustic irritants is expected, a second coating of the film can be applied to the skin after the first coating has dried completely.
4. When used under adhesive tapes, dressings, or devices:
(a) allow 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier to thoroughly dry before covering with the dressing or adhesive product;
(b) reapplication of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier is necessary each time dressing and/or adhesive products are changed; the barrier film is removed by the adhesive.
5. When used as a protectant against body fluids, feces, or urine etc. and no adhesive products are applied to skin:
a) reapplication of 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier is recommended every 24-72 hours, depending on frequency of cleansing.
b) In extreme cases (e.g. constant diarrheal stooling) with very frequent cleansing, more frequent applications MAY be necessary (i.e. every 12-24 hours).
6. If 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier is applied to an area with skin folds or other skin-to-skin contact, make sure that skin-contact areas are separated to allow the film to thoroughly dry before returning to the normal position.
7. If desired, the film can be removed by using most medical adhesive removers as directed. Clean and dry the involved area and reapply 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier.
