Indications

Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings are indicated for use on moderately to heavily exuding partial and full thickness wounds. Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings may be used for pressure ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, lacerations, skin abrasions, graft and donor sites, post-operative surgical wounds and 1st and 2nd degree burns. They can also be used to help control minor bleeding and support autolytic debridement. Use of any dressing, including Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings, should be part of a well-defined protocol for dermal wound management.
Tegaderm™ Alginate dressing is suitable for use under compression bandaging.

Contraindications

Tegaderm™ Alginate dressing is not indicated for use to control heavy bleeding. Do not use on patients with a known sensitivity to alginates. Not for surgical implantation.

Warnings and Precautions

Dispose of unused dressing material, according to local procedures and guidelines, due to risk of contamination.

Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings should not be used on minimally (dry or lightly) exuding wounds. Inadequate wound drainage could lead to adherence of the dressing to the wound site. Do not use on 3rd degree burns. Do not re-use in whole or in part, as it may compromise sterility and/or the performance of the dressing. For use under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Tegaderm™ Alginate dressings must not be ingested and must be kept away from children and animals.

Mode of Use/Application

Debride if necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols.  Remove excess solution from surrounding skin.  Select a size of Tegaderm™ Alginate dressing that is slightly larger than the wound. Cut (using sterile scissors) or fold the dressing to fit the wound. Apply dressing to the wound bed directly. For cavity wounds, loosely fill ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins. Cover with appropriate non-occlusive or semi-occlusive secondary dressing

Removal & Change Frequency

Tegaderm™ High Gelling Alginate dressing can remain in-situ for up to 7 days, dependent on patient condition and the level of exudate. Reapply the dressing when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates. To reapply, gently remove the secondary dressing. If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with sterile saline solution prior to removal. Gently remove the dressing from the wound bed and dispose of according to local procedures and guidelines. If required, irrigate the wound site with a suitable wound cleanser prior to application of a new dressing.
