Vascular Access Securement
Prepare the site as protocol dictates, ensuring the site and surrounding skin is dry and free of any residue. Avoid the use of skin barriers or adhesive agents beneath the silicone dressing as it may negatively affect adhesion. Remove the top blue liner to expose the center of the dressing. Hold the remaining white liners to stabilize the dressing for placement. Apply the exposed adhesive on to the skin over the catheter insertion site, Starting from the center, smooth over the skin. Do not apply tension. Remove one of the white liners using the tab, smoothing the adhesive onto the skin toward the edge of the dressing. Remove second white liner in the same manner. Carefully peel off the paper frame starting at either the top or bottom cut line, smoothing down the perimeter of dressing with your finger as you go to secure dressing to the skin. Apply securement strips to the outer edges of the dressing in order as placed on the enclosed card. Grasp end of each securement strip by white tab for ease of removal from card. Apply light pressure to the perimeter to confirm border securement. Place the documentation label with notch facing down over exiting lumens, ensuring overlap with bottom securement strip to ensure optimal adhesion.
Change dressing as good nursing practices dictate. Remove documentation label. Gently tear perforation at the center of the bottom tape strip and slowly peel away.
