Prior to the initial application of the dressing, the wound should be debrided of any necrotic tissue. The wound should be cleansed with normal saline and/or an appropriate wound cleansing solution.
Open the dressing package, keeping the dressing on the inside of the package. The dressing may be cut with sterile scissors to fit the wound bed. An appropriate liquid barrier film wipe may be used on the periwound skin. If the wound presents with surrounding erythema or rolled wound edges (epibole), the dressing should be larger than the wound to cover the periwound skin. Moisten the dressing with sterile saline or sterile water, and squeeze out the excess. Apply the dressing to the wound. The dressing may be folded or layered to ensure desired fit. Secure with secondary dressing to prevent displacement and to maintain moisture content.
