Kara Couch MS, CRNP, CWCN-AP, FAAWC is the Director of Wound Care Services at the George Washington University Hospital. Kara has worked at GW for 10 years and has been a Wound Care NP for 22 years. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Committee. She is an Associate Research Professor of Surgery at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her wound care interests include caring for persons with limb loss/limb differences, complex abdominal wounds, wound care education and use of technology in wound healing. She is the Chair of the HAPU Committee and also serves on the Hospital Quality Council, Patient Safety Council and is a member of the Medical Executive Committee. Kara is the President of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) and the Vice-Chair of the Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders. Kara is a Fellow of the Association of the Advancement of Wound Care. Kara is the co-chair of the Wound Care Community for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She also serves on the Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee of the Amputee Coalition. She is an editorial board member of the International Wound Journal, Today’s Wound Clinic, Wound Masterclass and WoundSource 2025.
