The Evolution of Wound Hygiene: Four Simple Steps to Proactive Wound Healing…the Next Chapter!

Since a global panel of wound care experts published the first consensus document on Wound Hygiene in March 2020, there has been a flurry of activity in support of this recently established concept in proactive wound healing. The consensus has been bolstered by educational webinars, competency-based skills training and support, development of international Wound Hygiene ambassadors, a survey of 1478 respondents published in July 2021, and a global case study supplement published in January 2022 that features a range of wound types and underlying conditions and demonstrates the improvements in wound-healing progress that can be achieved. Wound Hygiene has gained its own identity. It is an antibiofilm approach that is increasingly used in wound care all over the world. This session will provide insights and tools to make a difference in your wound care practice. A capabilities framework will be launched to support your professional development. Clinical outcomes and the impact of wound hygiene will be discussed. Objectives:

  • To convey an update of activities since launch, including what we have learned along the way and how we have continued our investment to drive this protocol of care educational platform, and introduce a proactive wound healing framework
  • To introduce a capability framework
  • To illustrate wound hygiene in practice and the impact on patient outcomes from a health care provider perspective
  • To describe a patient experience
