Benefits

• Designed to absorb and retain exudate, while the breathable outer layers allow moisture vapor transmission away from the dressing
• Enables healing to progress by creating and maintaining a moist healing environment
• The breathable outer layers protect against eschar formation and are also waterproof, protecting against external contamination
• Soft and conformable, providing an optimal moist healing environment and excellent patient comfort
• As it absorbs exudate, it may swell slightly but does not leave debris in the wound

Indications

CovaWound™ Foam is indicated for the management of lightly to moderately exuding wounds such as pressure, leg, diabetic and foot ulcers, superficial and partial-thickness burns, donor sites, trauma wounds, and post-operative surgical wounds. It can be used under compression bandaging. Dressing does not adhere to the wound.

Contraindications

Dressing should not be applied to surgical implantations, to dry or lightly exuding wounds, or to control heavy bleeding.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not use with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solution (eg, Dakin's) or hydrogen peroxide, as these can break down the absorbent component of the dressing. If sensitivity develops, discontinue use. Dressing should not be used on patients with a known sensitivity to polyurethane foams or films. Use on infected wounds should only be under the discretion of the attending medical practitioner/clinician. Not indicated for use on third-degree burns and should only be used under the direction of a health care professional.

Mode of Use/Application

Clean the wound area with normal saline or distilled water. Gently dry the surrounding skin and ensure that it is free of any residue. Choose the size and shape of the dressing which is most suitable (the dressing should extend 3/4" (2cm) beyond the wound margin). Remove the dressing from the packaging. Remove the release liner from the dressing and apply the white side of the non-adherent foam dressing to the wound. Firmly affix the adhesive border to the surrounding skin. Remove the back release liner and smooth out the dressing to ensure it is firmly in place.

Removal & Change Frequency

CovaWound™ Foam dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the amount of exudate and the condition of the wound. CovaWound™ Foam dressing should be changed when visible signs of exudate approach the edge of the dressing. The cumulative use of CovaWound™ Foam dressing should not exceed 30 days.

Additional Recommended Dressings

May be used as a secondary dressing to ColActive® Plus (Collagen Matrix Dressing) or ColActive® Plus Ag (Collagen Matrix Dressing with Silver).
